1. Acceptable Use & Gamification Integrity
FocusQuest is designed as an interactive, gamified study timer and productivity environment for students. Users are encouraged to utilize the app for personal learning, focus building, and study streak tracking.
To preserve the intended spirit of productivity and achievement tracking, you agree not to engage in malicious browser script injections, automated timer manipulation, or deliberate distortion of XP and streak metrics intended to bypass real-time focus requirements.
2. Single-File Client-Side Architecture
FocusQuest is built as a zero-backend, single-file application. All session calculations, level computations, streak logs, and timer states execute locally inside your client environment.
Notice regarding local data responsibility: Because there are no user accounts hosted on external servers, your progress data exists purely within your local browser's memory storage. Clearing browser cache or site data will irreversibly erase your progress unless manually backed up.
3. Disclaimers & No Educational Guarantees
The Service is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied. While FocusQuest is crafted to assist with study discipline and task completion, we do not guarantee specific academic performance, test results, or grade outcomes.
FocusQuest is not a medical or psychological tool and should not be used as a substitute for professional health or time-management guidance.
4. Intellectual Property Rights
All software code, visual styling, interface assets, animations, sound synthesizer logic, and branding associated with FocusQuest are owned by or licensed to us. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes.

We believe privacy is a fundamental human right. FocusQuest was intentionally architected from the ground up to protect student privacy by eliminating remote user tracking entirely.
1. Zero Third-Party Tracking & Zero Remote Databases
We do not operate remote database servers, user authentication systems, or cloud data vaults for user profiles. We do not sell, license, rent, or share any user data with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing networks.
2. Local Storage Disclosure
FocusQuest utilizes your web browser's standard localStorage mechanism to maintain app state across browser refreshes. The following data points are stored locally on your device under keys prefixed with focusquest_:
- Focus Progression: Earned Experience Points (XP), current level, and milestone badges.
- Streak Counters: Active daily focus streaks and last session timestamps.
- Session Logs: Completed study durations, chosen categories, and completion dates.
- User Preferences: Visual theme preference (System, Dark, or Light mode) and timer configurations.
3. Analytics & Web Hosting Notice
FocusQuest is statically hosted on Netlify. Netlify may record standard, temporary web server log files (such as IP address, browser user-agent, and requested page URL) solely for network security, DDoS protection, and server operational integrity. These technical logs are managed strictly by the hosting infrastructure and are not linked to individual user profiles by FocusQuest.
4. Children's & Student Privacy Compliance (COPPA & FERPA Aligned)
Because FocusQuest collects no personal information, requires no user registration, requests no email addresses, and contains no interactive public communication features, it complies fully with the principles of:
- COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act)
- FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
FocusQuest is safe for use by students of all ages in both home and classroom environments.
5. Complete User Data Control
You remain in total control of your data at all times. You can completely wipe all FocusQuest data, logs, and stored settings at any moment by clearing your browser's site storage or local storage cache for https://focusquestapp.netlify.app/.
